ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I create delicately balanced handbuilt sculptural forms.
As a ceramic artist I have begun moving beyond the realm of the wheel and into that of exploring the intersection of materials. My focus for now is with handmade paper, steel wire, fibers, foraged wild iron, and glass as they relate to each other and to the beauty of porcelain and form. I define my aesthetic as both minimal and formal in nature while pursuing a quiet presence, asymmetrical balance, and softened biomorphic forms.
My work manifests as a physical realization of the mindfulness of my inner process; making is that inner process become tangible. Trained as a landscape architect my affinity for a quiet formality and sensitivity to the design principles of form, movement, and balance are deeply embedded. This along with the sensitively organized minimalism of Agnes Martin and the voluptuous biomorphism of Magdalene Odundo these influences are deeply inspirational avenues to realizing my aesthetic. In continually seeking my own inner balance and groundedness, creating new work in this manner is a key part in my achieving a fulfilling artistic life.
Through this process my hope is that my work is engaging and exhibits an ephemeral beauty with depth and soulful relevance that reveals itself slowly over time.
